New Tech Squad Department- Computer Learning Centers
Computer Learning Centers has a strong interest in supporting the education of Puerto Rico students in the area of technology integration. That's why during the summer of 2010, the New Tech Squad team will be designing a pilot project that will be called Water Cops CL, as requested by our boss and company president, Alexis Torres.
PR Water Cops CL project will enable students to study watersheds near their homes or schools. They will understand what happens to the flow of water over them, the way in which human activities affect the watersheds and its hydrological impact and how the change in land use can affect communities of plants and animals that live along it.

The New Tech Squad team is continuously innovating and looking for the latest in technology to support education in Puerto Rico. With great enthusiasm and passion, CLC continues to design projects that encourage students to continue their studies and identify early future career areas are of interest. We are currently at the project design phase. For water quality sampling, we will use the company's Vernier products: LabQuest and Logger Pro This sensor technology will help us collect and analyze data in a very quick, precise and effective fashion.

Project Description The multidisciplinary project PR Water Cops CL, will enable students to explore watersheds near their homes and schools, to understand what happens to the flow of water over them, the way in which human activities have an effect on the river and impact the hydrology, and the way in which the change of land use can affect plant and animal communities that live near the watershed. This project aims at developing technology skills in applications such as Logger Pro and Vernier LabQuest sofftware, GIS, Google Earth or Arc Explorer, Adobe Premiere and Thinkquest.org or Blogger. This technology will enable students to investigate, analyze, manipulate and interpret data. It involves students from the intermediate school level and above. During the Project development, the students will engage in tasks and sub-tasks to complete highlights the following products:
In Science, Mathematics and Technology - Scientific Article (Journal) - Vernier Logger Pro-LabQuest and MS Publisher 2007 - 4 weeks.
In English (Spanish), and Technology - Video Documentary - Adobe Premiere - 3 weeks.
In Geography and Technology - GeoMapping - ArcView or ArcExplorer and Google Earth-2 weeks.

PR Water Cops CL project is a multi-application where students have the opportunity to do research on water quality from several points of Rio Piedras and the Sabana Llana stream. To perform these investigations, we will be using technologies such as:
GPS devices to identifyt locations for sample collections.
Vernier technology to take water quality measurements:
-Transparency,
-Conductivity,
-Alkalinity,
-pH,
-Temperature,
-Dissolved Oxygen, and
-Nitrate ions concentration.
GIS to create digital maps for geospatial analysis. Other applications we are evaluating to serve this purpose are: ArcView, ArcExplorer, Google Earth or Globe.gov.
